Walking

Here’s this one again! How much should I walk? How many steps or for how long? Sigh…

Whoa!
Maybe we’re looking at this subject with too much expert advice bouncing around in our overworked brains… We feel like we need to get this perfect amount of exercise or we aren’t doing ‘enough’ to feel good about ourselves or for others to feel good about us. It is a temptation to focus on how much we think others think we should be doing.
Let’s think this through a little. So many factors play in here. Where do you live? What age are you? What is your weight? Do you have any medical conditions? The important thing is to get in some daily activity. Do what you can handle right now at the stage of life you are in. Walk from your front door to the street. From your house to the end of the block and back. Around your back yard. Go to the local park and walk among the trees.
Then increase or change the routine. You don’t want to grow stagnant, get bored with it all and quit. Start walking farther or maybe begin running part of the way. Find some hilly or mountainous terrain and do some more aggressive hiking. But keep on doing what is manageable for you. Make choices depending on your end goal. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.
Looking Up!
